Within the RAM chip is a complex grid of circuitry. The intersections of this grid are made of transistors and capacitors which are capable of being turned on or off. These "latches", or memory cells, hold the binary ones and zeroes which encode the information on the RAM chip. Because these intersections, or intersections hold the bits of information, they are called "bit-holding junctions."
